Sarah our Events Manager

It’s been a while … we are back with another familiar face here at The Banff Springs our Events Manager Sarah 🫶🏼 Sarah joined us in 2007 when she was just 15 years old and has worked in various roles throughout her time with us. So grab a cuppa .. and get to know Sarah …

What led you to a career as an events manager?

I started at The Banff Springs when I was 15 years old in 2007 working with Jillian as an events waitress at weekends. I then moved into the restaurant and began to progress my career. While at school, I toyed briefly with studying photography and psychology but I really enjoyed what I was doing as a restaurant supervisor.

The Banff Springs put me through a Modern Apprenticeship studying SVQS in ‘Food & Beverage Service’ and then ‘Hospitality Supervision and Leadership’ through a company we work closely with.

In 2013, I became Trainee Restaurant Manager. The restaurant was newly refurbished and extended from 60 seats to 120 seats and we were so busy!

I remember countless times on Saturday nights with a full restaurant taking a second and thinking ‘wow, how lucky am I? I love my job!’

I had my sights set on events as I really enjoyed helping families organise special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and in early January 2020, a vacancy became available as Events Manager. Jumping at the opportunity, I couldn’t wait to get started but I was also nervous at such huge responsibilities in helping organise and run weddings.

February 2020, I was faced with a different challenge after a head-on car accident which resulted in a knee laceration and breaking my femur, my tibia in two places, dislocating my ankle and breaking it in three places. After surgery with screws and plates, I began my long recovery and then … covid happened.

Events were at a stand still meaning there was countless postponements. Although i still helped out around the hotel where I could. Whilst events were at a standstill we decided to put the time to good use and transform the Ballroom. We knew that restrictions could lift at any opportunity so we were working round the clock!

September 2020 was my first wedding … Amy & Craig and I LOVED every second. An intimate celebration of 18 guests due to restrictions at the time. I just knew Events is where I belonged.

In August 2021 our Ballroom transformation was complete and i was .. well i still am in awe of how stunning the room looks. Our Ballroom is a stunning canvas for any occasion that allows you to add your personal touch and make it truly yours. oh and the lighting is amazing, it compliments the Ballroom so well.

To this day I still get the moment of ‘wow, how lucky am I to do this job?’
